The band is all here and we’re throwing down here in Austin, TX. We’ve been up and running now for two weeks now. Lots of great ideas being tossed around. We’re staying at a kick ass ranch outside of town that has a studio a stones throw away. Hence John’s “casual” attire. We’ve had the great pleasure of doing some writing sessions with some truly amazing musicians. Among them are Alejandro Escovedo, Carrie Rodriguez and Ron Sexsmith. We’ve got a few more people coming in to help us hash out ideas so it’s just going to get better and better. We’ll keep you updated of where things are going along the way. We’ll probably end up with more material than we can record in one project so stay tuned for exclusive web site releases and freebies in the coming year. See y’all down the road.

I don’t know where to start? That drummer is barely moving. His suit is priceless. I mean, the bassist is playing in a lounge chair. Come on. Awesome. This should be a mandatory watch by any band before they go into a studio. Well done sir. Well done.
Not exactly sure why he’s sweating so profusely though. Turtlenecks are usually a pretty bad call with studio lighting.

The Good:

John’s life long dream of hoisting up the Stanley Cup was realized when Blackhawk’s alternate captain Patrick Sharpe dropped by our gig in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

The Bad:

It was a great treat given that the border made us wait seven f***ing hours needlessly before letting us in the country. They did, however, have time enough to break a xerox machine, laugh about it, use flashlights inside the office, laugh about that, walk slowly to the other side of the room, walk slowly back, organize the walkie talkies, deny access to a band playing at the festival, heat up what looked like microwave pizza, laugh with a canadian accent at a joke about their uniforms, search kayak.com for a fishing vacation (I saw this in the mirror behind the dutifully preoccupied clerk with hair plugs desk), proceed to adjust his nut sack behind the desk where I could still see him in the mirror, search kayak.com for a cruise ship vacation, heat up another microwave pizza (i think this one had pepperoni on it), deny Tab Benoit’s band access to the country (who by the way is one mother f***er of a guitar player), talk to our tour manager condescendingly, make a sandwich, copy some things on the broke xerox, go to the bathroom for what I gauge as much longer than ample pee time, laugh at a band member sleeping in a chair, walk slowly to the back office, talk to us like criminals, deny us access and wish us a “good day eh.”

The Ugly:

The Good (again):

That experience aside we had a great time playing the Thunder Bay Blues Festival. Everyone involved in the production of this event was beyond courteous and professional and very much sympathized with our ordeal. All the bands seriously rocked and we got to play to an unbelievable crowd.

Oh my goodness what a blast!!! Thanks so much to all the folks that came out to red rocks and then hung out through the freezing downpours! if someone had told me our red rocks show would involve several rain storms and a severe drop in temperature 5 songs in to our set, i would have gone fetal and cried!! but how wrong i would have been. certainly, all of us there would prefer the elements where they stood during the Banner, but what a blast the night turned out to be. and how memorable. let me just tell all of you fans how gratifying it was for us to to look out there and see so many folks hanging tough. out popped the rain ponchos and the fleece and hats etc…crazier still were the people who remained half clothed!! FREAKS! By Warmer Days I had to jump around just to keep from uncontrollable shivers and there were ladies out there in shorts and tank tops!!! Many many thanks to all of you who hung in there with us. What a ball.

Thought the first album came off pretty well. The changes we have made to the tunes for BT v.02 are subtle but going back to the original arrangements was challenging. Had to have our wits about us!! I was concerned Mr. Seagram may impede certain of our wits but that didn’t seem to be the case:) I particularly love the clap along vocal at the end of Droppin’. May need to resurrect that beast. Although I haven’t heard the tape so I reserve the right to restrict the aforementioned resurrection on the basis of vocal insurrection!!

Off to Thunder Bay!! eh? El Guapo

My entire body cracked&bent on sunday to the core of my soul&I am not right yet… But by God,or love’s power…by the heart of my crew, the soul&character of my band pulling2gether…by the mighty ghost of Bob Sheehan himself, -pissing all over us from the steps of Vallhalla,…&always that marvelous crowd, always letting us know that in the most dire tempest,we were not alone…we came through&still remain….unbroken… I do not know how that show will be surpassed… We will try… I have about a week2heal my voice before the next gig… I don’t think I’ll be really healed for months…I feel like a prize fighter after a beating -but I am as proud as I’ve been…&I’ve been proud…2any that stood in that storm with us,I can only weakly say…thank U… thank U.
