I'm surprised there isn't already a thread for this. What do you guys think are the absolute best BT songs ever?

the reason why there is no thread like this, is, because its a damn hard question ... i have a lot of favourite BT Songs, but if i have to choose one, i would say the live versions of "Brother John". But there are so many, who also reach lap 1, like Amber Awaits, Girl Inside My Head, This Ache, The Path, You Cant Stop Thinkin' About Me, Crystal Flame, Slow Change, Alone, Sweet Talking Hippie, All Hands, You're Burning Me, Just Wait, Orange In The Sun, What Remains, Love&Greed, NY Prophesie, Save His Soul, Bullshitter's Lament, Fledling, Support Your Local Emperor, All In The Groove, Thinnest Of Air, and Let Her&Let Go
But Brother John is a bit better than any of these Songs, i dunno why, maybe its because the song features the crowd a lot and has a great ending(hush little baby, shout)
What about you Wolfj or the other cats here?

well I'm sort of a new BT fan, so I've only heard ten songs and loved them all. (In order from favorite to least favorite):
1. Hook
2. Just for Me
3. But Anyway
4. Canadian Rose
5. 100 Years
6. Christmas
7. Most Precarious
8. The Mountains Win Again
9. Run-Around
10. Optimistic ThoughtI realize these are basically their "best-known" songs, and there's tons and tons of Blues Traveler I have yet to explore.

i dont like 100 years :D ^^ ... i dont know why, but its a stupid melody and the text is not the type of the traveler's repertoire ...
Christmas is a good song, i guess it also has a name, but , i love that one!!! ... Hook is sorta mainstream song i dont like all the time ... Just for me has an excellent harp solo, but anyway i love it too, but the new live version they do, the original studio version has a to long harp solo, canadian rose, havent listened to it a long time :)
most precarious, doesnt it seem most precarious ... doesnt it seem such a chance to take(good song), mountains win again(good lyrics lame melody) ... RunAround, the mainstream song no.1 :D ... optimistic thought is sweet :)Popper Freak :)

It's not my favorite song but I've really been digging Money Back Guarantee but only live versions. John just seems to put a lot into it and it really works.

i havent heard Money Back Guarantee live yet, you know any good recording of it? ;)
Posted 1 year ago # -
I'm partial to this one because I was at this show.

Best tunes at this moment for me album by album: Alone, Emperor, Go Outside, Stand, Regarding Steven or Alone live, Carolina Blues, Rage, Eventually on Red Rocks, and Orange in the Sun on Shootout. I don't know TBT or Bastardos well enough to comment yet....I don't know Cover Yourself either. I find the ballads unlistenable (except for the ones on the first album), but the other stuff is great....my favorite band. Creep is awesome live....John pours himself into it. I still miss Bobby's bass - but I am enjoying Chad as well. Brendan's drumming is kick ass. And, to say that John is an amazing talent is an understatement.

i used to fall in love when i heard "orange in the sun" :) ...

The easiest way to do this is by doing the best song off each album. For me, its this.
Blues Traveler:Slow Change
Travelers and Theives:Sweet Pain
Save His Soul:Trina Magna
Four:Price to Pay (so underated)
Straight on Til Morning:TIE Felicia, Most Precarious
Bridge:Back in The Day
Truth Be Told:TIE Sweet and Broken, Thinnest of Air
Bastardos:Amber Awaits (everything else sucked)
North Hollywood Shootout:TIE Orange in The Sun, Forever Owed, Beacons
Live Albums
Live From The Fall:But Anyway
What You And I Have Been Through:All Hands
Live On The Rocks:Save His SoulPosted 1 year ago # -
A SLAP ! ACROSS YOUR FACE MAN!!!
whats with "She And I" on Bastardos? ... that was a good one!Posted 1 year ago # -
Are you kidding me Dean???? I mean is wasnt horrible, but the trumpets and trombones make it sound like and poor mans What Remains. Plus the music doesnt match the lyrics nor do the brass instruments.

i love that album ... was listening to it today when i was in town :D ... and it rocks!!! but its a -i-have-to-be-in-the-right-mood-and-the-weather-must-be-bad album ;)

Bridge: You Reach Me
Truth Be Told: Let Her & Let Go
Bastardos: She And I
North Hollywood Shootout: Forever Owed

Ive never met in person someone who likes Bridge. They say its to poppy. But yet they all love Four. Riddle me that! Nice list by the way. But Sweet and Broken was only on Thinnest of Air the dvd. It wasnt on the live album.

The word "best" is tough....some of my favorites:
Sweet Pain, Bagheera, Whoops, Love of my Life, Price to Pay, All Hands, Great Big World, Believe Me, Decision of the Skies, Nefertitti, Trina Magna
I think Regarding Steven is the probably among finest songs the band has ever recorded.
Travelers and Thieves and Save his Soul are both absolutely loaded though IMO.
I told John about 6 or 8 years ago I thought SHS was the band's "Physical Graffiti" ..and I stil think it's the best, by a good bit.Posted 1 year ago # -
@BudaBudaBagheera, yeah i know that with Sweet&Broken, i got the dvd, but not the "soundtrack cd" of it. DVD is much better :)
Well i always thought that most of the Traveler fans like "Four" the most. But for me, i dont really like it anymore(just listened to often to it). The songs on "Four" i still like are "Run Around", "Look Around", "The Good/Bad/Ugly" and "Just Wait".
The thing with "Bridge". There are a lot of good songs on it,
"Back in the day" is a great classic by john. "Girl inside my head" has a nice keyboard solo. "Rage" is very quiet and you could hear it great if you smoke a joint ;) ... "Just for me" has one of the best harp solos. "you reach me", i totally love the lyrics of that song and the melody is awesome, "All hands" is like rage ;) go and smoke! :D ... "Pretty angry", its an ok song but a good slow song ... "the way" / "lost me there" are so timeless, i could dance to them all night long ... "sadly a fiction" is so true, everybody can say YES, THATS ABOUT ME ... "You're burnin me" is cool, i love the harp beginning here and the best part is "and the ropes are burning threw"(that cracks me everytime out how johnny sings that), "Decision of the skies" is a great end of this AWESOME GREAT ALBUM!!!@dantraveler the style of the early recordings are great, really 90's music :) now they turned a bit into mainstream rock music, which isnt that bad ... ;)
Amen Brother's and Sister's ;)

I am kind of a dated BT fan. I am a serious harmonica player and Popper's one of my top three influences. I listened intensely, avidly, probaly went to 7-8 shows, from before Blues Traveler to Straight on Til Morning. Then, I kind of dropped off, have seen them rarely, and Popper Band twice.
Nonetheless I can pick an absolute favorite, the song I would play for someone with musical taste who wanted to understand why people listen to BT, when so many seem to dislike them. That song is "Believe Me" on Save His Soul. It is concise, the lyrics are world-weary and philosophical, uplifting without being pollyannish. The harmonica solo has a distinct beginning, middle and an absolutely transcendent peak, with the tasteful incorporation of effects. It is short and not noodle-y. There is no Chan solo. Love ya Chan, but your gifts are supporting, not leading. Then you pair this with the song immediately following, Go Outside...; funny, jazzy rhythmically, excellent interplay between the instruments, with a huge dose of showmanship and insightful storytelling. Those two songs form the peak of the BT pantheon for me, but if I had to choose one, Believe Me.Posted 1 year ago # -
I have been a BT fan since I first heard "All in the Groove" on the radio. I am the only BT fan I know outside of this community. With that being said, it definitely is hard to get yourself down to a reasonably sized list, but I did my best. Some I chose because of the lyrics, some I chose because of the rhythm, some are both...
Best songs by album (HM = Honorable Mention):
Blues Traveler - Alone (HM - Slow Change)
Travelers & Thieves - I Have My Moments (HM - Ivory Tusk)
Save His Soul - Fledgling (HM - Bullshitter's Laments)
Four - Just Wait (HM - The Mountains Win Again, can't forget Bobby)
Straight On Til Morning - Yours (HM - The Gunfighter)
Bridge - Back in the Day (HM - Pretty Angry)
Truth Be Told - Mount Normal (HM - Stumble & Fall)
Bastardos - Money Back Guarantee (HM - That Which Doesn't Kill You)
North Hollywood Shootout - Borrowed Time (HM - Forever Owed)
**Best song not featured on major album - Regarding Steven (HM - Christmas)**John Popper Side Projects
Zygote - Once You Wake Up (HM - Miserable Bastard)
John Popper Project - All Good Children (HM - Louisiana Sky)Popper Freak, you said: ""Pretty angry", its an ok song but a good slow song ..."
I say: "Pretty Angry" is slow for a purpose, the band is musically mourning the loss of not only a bandmate, but a close friend. "Pretty Angry" is a great song for the lyrics and sentiment behind it. To have performed this song with a quicker tempo or altered melody would be a disgrace. RIP "Brooklyn" Bobby Sheehan.Posted 1 year ago # -

Straight on Till Morning- The Whole Album. Yes I said the Whole Album again.
Bridge- Everything up to Sadly a Fiction.
