Hey gang, I am an old-time huge BT fan. I think the 1st 2 albums are the best 2 albums ever, I can listen to Sweet Pain over and over and over. Save his soul was pretty good, but then I lost interest when Four came out, I didn't think it had the same sound. I still listen to my old stuff, but I haven't listened to anything new since Four.
Does anyone have any advice as to what album or sing since then captures the feel of the early years the best? Any help?
Thanks a lot!

Apologizes for the late response.
I would say start with Bridge ( first album with the new lineup) and the Truth Be Told and perhaps skip Bastardos for now . ( As much as I love that album - I am a minority in that respect, so you would probably want to come back to it. ) Then there's just North Hollywood Shootout .Blues Traveler now doesn't really sound too much like the Blues Traveler of old on an album format. They are still very good - just a little different. If you are looking for the old BT feel- try to pick up a live release . Archive.org has tons of shows many are added weekly.
Hope this helped.

I don't get this????? Do we expect any band to sound the same in 2010 as they did in the early 90s? Wouldn't that get kind of boring after 20 years?
I love the first three albums also especially Travelers and Thieves. To be honest I don't see where Four was such a big departure from that sound. It actually sounds like a natural follow up to the debut album to me. I guess some want to be unique and listen to bands that aren't huge sellers and Four kind of ruined that for them but anyway. The point is, if you didn't grow the same way as the band did then just continue to listen to the first few albums. It's great stuff and if that is the period of BT that you relate to there is nothing wrong with that. Don't ignore a chance to see them live though. You will still enjoy a BT concert and in that format probably find you like the later stuff a lot more than you think. They play a diverse playlist now with older, middle and newer stuff. It provides the variety to keep things fresh but still fits together nicely.
On a side note, TC I agree with you on Bastardos. I got on here and was a little surprised that people just aren't down with that album. I guess it is the farthest from the classic BT sound but I think it's a solid album. In fact of the 50 or so BT songs on my IPOD, Bastardos is always well respresented. After What, Money Back Gaurantee, Nail, That Which Doesn't Kill You, What Could Possibly Go Wrong, Leaning In are all favorites of mine.
